Back in the 1980’s, some clever college students stumbled along a simple way of making very realistic fake ID cards. They’d start out by making a copy of the ID that was large enough for a life sized picture of the ID holder. After that they’d simply have the person stand in front of the ID and have his picture taken. One the photo was developed; they’d mount it on firm paper and apply lamination. In no time at all they’d have new, fake ID.But a lot has changed since the 1980’s and you wouldn’t want to pull that stunt today. That’s because most bars and restaurants utilize high tech driver license scanners to quickly identify fake ID cards. A simple fake like the ones we just described would set off alarm bells almost immediately.

Despite the narrow odds against success, many underage drinkers still attempt to thwart these machines with new and varied methods. But fooling a magnetic strip reader is difficult and fooling an OCR scanner is even tougher. Modern ID scanners are designed to thwart all the little tricks that clever college students come up with.

So instead of wasting time coming up with a better fake ID, you’re much better off just waiting until your twenty first birthday, it’s more fund that way anyways.
